Barristers House (c. 1835)
406 Third Avenue North

This grand house was built in 1835 for Mr. Pascal Wade, a
prominent citizen of Columbus. The house was built of locally
produced brick. The pedimented portico is supported by huge, square
columns, calling attention to its vast structural strength. The
original house contained only four rooms which was customary at
that time. The kitchen was located in a separate building in the
back yard. The home beautifully displays an outstanding collection
of artwork from the Asia, Latin America, Africa and the United
States.
According to rumor, a carpetbagger occupied the house during
Reconstruction. He had accumulated great wealth over the years and,
according to legend, hid his gold in a well in the backyard. 406
