Columbus Lake offers 9,000 acres of fresh water for fishing and water sports on the Tenn-Tom Waterway. The lake is recognized throughout the South as a hot spot for bass and crappie fishing and is also stocked with catfish and bream.

The good fishing environment along the Tenn-Tom is no accident. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers purposely left acres of flooded timber and brush - perfect bass and crappie habitat. The Waterway is 234 miles long and a minimum of 300 feet wide and nine feet deep. It boasts 10 locks (each 60 feet long and 110 feet wide) and 5 dams.  Modern navigation locks allow pleasure craft to lock through quickly and safely.

The current is normally less than one mile per hour except in flood-prone early spring. Navigation channels are usually maintained at levels deep enough for pleasure craft, but boaters should always use caution.  There is no fee for using the locks.
